Fresh flowers...

Mariette Himes Gomez, author of one of my very favorite interior design books, Rooms (given to me by Sissy Bradham- my very favorite interior designer and role model!) said in the book, "Flowers bring color, shape, and volume to a space." Fresh flowers are something that always make me happy. Maybe I got it from my mom who would always have a fresh flower in my room on my bedside table when I would come home from college for a weekend. Whatever it is, they are, in my mind, the perfect, timeless accessory that always brighten a room. The flat we stayed in in Paris had beautiful hydrangea bouquets everywhere, and since hydrangeas are my favorite flower, I couldn't resist photographing just a couple of them to share with all.
Not to mention the streets of Paris were lined with the most beautiful flower stands...
Final memorable words from Mariette Himes Gomez on flowers: "They have to be subtle enough to co-exist as a companion to everything else in a room, or strong enough to be an accent."... "You can't go wrong if you always come back to the idea of balance."
